
Four-Run Second Enough for Smokies Win

CHATTANOOGA, TN . - The Tennessee Smokies scored four times in the second inning and it proved to be enough as they won the series opener over the Chattanooga Lookouts 4-3. Tennessee has now won six of their last seven games.
The Lookouts had the tying run on third base with two outs in the bottom of the 9th but Zach Rosscup struck out Chris Jacobs to end the game.
Kyle Hendricks (3-2) earned his second straight win pitching seven strong innings yielding three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Zach Lee (3-3) suffered the loss for Chattanooga surrendering four runs on five hits in five innings of work. Rosscup came on in the 9th inning and recorded his first save of the season.
Tennessee (21-19) sent nine batters to the plate against Lee in their four-run second inning. After Ty Wright and Rafael Lopez reached to start the inning, Christian Villanueva hit an RBI double for the game's first run. Rubi Silva then reached on a third strike in the dirt and Lopez scored from third base to double the lead. Then with two outs and the bases loaded, Ronald Torreyes delivered a two-run single to left field for a 4-0 Smokies lead.
Chattanooga (16-25) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th inning. Joc Pederson reached on a one-out single and came around to score on Yasiel Puig's RBI double to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Lookouts closed within a run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a towering two-run home run by Jacobs, his third of the season, to make it 4-3.
The Smokies and Lookouts will continue their five-game series tomorrow night at 7:15 ET when Tennessee sends right-hander Dallas Beeler (3-1, 3.14) to the mound against Chattanooga lefty Chris Reed (1-4, 5.49) at AT&T Field.
