Rome, GA--Asheville dropped the series opener to Rome 11-4 on Thursday night. The Tourists took a 4-2 lead before watching the Braves score nine unanswered. Asheville committed four errors in the loss.

The Tourists took the early lead by plating two runs in the top of the first inning. With runners at second and third, Tom Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to deep right and Derek Jones followed that with an RBI double.

The 2-0 lead did not last long as the Braves netted an unearned run in the bottom of the first.

Shortly after, Rome tied the game 2-2 when Levi Hyams and Josh Elander combined for back-to- back two out base hits in the third.

In the fourth inning both teams delivered offensively. Julian Yan blasted a two-run Home Run putting the Tourists in front 4-2, but the Braves responded with a four-run bottom half. Once Chase Anselment and Joey Meneses delivered RBI base hits, Hyams doubled home a pair to make it 6-4 Rome.

The Braves more unearned runs in the sixth and added three in the eighth to extend their lead.

Asheville had only one hit in the final five innings.

Jones finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and Kyle Von Tungeln reached base three times.

Elander drove in a game-high 5 RBI's while Jose Peraza and Hymas each scored three runs. Asheville and Rome will face off for Game Two on Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 pm.
