Four Run Fourth Leads Braves to Victory

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists 11-4 Thursday night before 2,008 fans at State Mutual Stadium in the first game of a four game series.

Asheville took the early lead in the first inning when Matt Wessinger reached base with a lead off walk and later scored off of a sacrifice fly by Tom Murphy. Derek Jones added an RBI double to make the score 2-0. The Braves cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning when Josh Elander grounded into a bases loaded double play making it a 2-1 game. Rome tied the game in the third on another RBI by Elander, this time thanks to a double for the 2-2 score.

The Tourists climbed back on top in the fourth on a two run homer by Julian Yan. Rome took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Chase Anselment and an RBI single by Joey Meneses. Levi Hyams doubled in the frame scoring two giving Rome a 6-4 advantage. The Braves added two in the sixth and three in the eighth for the 11-4 final.

Braves starter Williams Perez (4-3) was awarded the victory, while Asheville's Ben Hughes (3-4) gets the loss.
