Lansing Lugnuts News Release
EASTLAKE, OHIO - A three-hit night by Emilio Guerrero and a four-run fifth inning led the Lansing Lugnuts (13-22) to a 7-4 win over the Lake County Captains (12-23) at Classic Park on Tuesday night.
After winning three of four against Lake County to open the schedule, Lansing is now 4-1 at Classic Park this season.
Down 4-3 entering the fifth inning, the Lugnuts loaded the bases against Captains reliever D.J. Brown (Loss, 1-1). A pair of errors by Lake County second baseman Claudio Bautista allowed the Lugs to break things open, as RBI singles from Balbino Fuenmayor and Guerrero sandwiched a two-run single by Aaron Munoz and the Lugnuts took a 7-4 lead.
Guerrero was 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in a pair of runs. Since coming off the disabled list on Sunday, he has reached base seven times in three games.
After allowing three runs in the first inning to the Captains, Lugnuts starter Javier Avendano (Win, 3-2) settled down and earned a win, allowing four runs in five innings. Avendano struck out five and walked three.
The Lansing bullpen also continued its recent stretch of success as Tucker Donahue and Wil Browning threw a combined three innings of scoreless baseball with four strikeouts and Arik Sikula pitched the ninth inning for his second save of the season.
The middle game of the series is set for an 11:00 a.m. first pitch on Wednesday morning. Lansing will send left-hander Alonzo Gonzalez (2-2, 6.19) against Lake County right-hander Jake Sisco (0-2, 3.81).
Lansing Lugnuts tickets are available for purchase at lansinglugnuts.com and by calling 517-485-4500, and Lugnuts text alerts are easily accessed by texting LUGNUTS to 313131.
