Durango Adds Major League Depth to Wahoos

The Cincinnati Reds have signed former Major League outfielder and speedster Luis Durango and assigned him to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Durango has played in 39 Major League games over parts of three seasons with a career .292 average. In 10 seasons in the minor leagues, he has maintained a career average of .306 with an astonishing 226 stolen bases.

Most recently he was playing with the White Sox Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights of the International League. He was hitting .233 with five steals over 26 games. He spent the entire 2012 season with the Gwinnett Braves (Triple-A for the Atlanta Braves) and compiled a .289 average with 46 stolen bases in 132 games.

The switch-hitting speedster was originally signed by the Padres as an amateur free agent back in 2003 out of Panama. Durango has spent time in the Astros, Braves, Royals and White Sox organizations since San Diego. He began the 2013 season in Spring Training with the Royals and played in eight spring games with Kansas City before getting released on April 1. He signed shortly after with the White Sox.

In a corresponding move, OF Steve Selsky has been transferred to Advanced-A Bakersfield. Selsky was hitting .181 with 12 RBI in 32 games with Pensacola this season.
