Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- The Huntsville Stars shut out the Mississippi Braves 5-0 in game three of a five-game series and a 10-game homestand at Trustmark Park Tuesday night. The series continues as the M-Braves look to even the series with a win in Wednesday night's contest.
The M-Braves (24-14) had six hits in the game while Huntsville (15-23) scored five runs on eight hits and one error. Christian Bethancourt led the M-Braves offensively with two hits and a walk. Nick Shaw and Jason Rogers led the Stars with two-hit nights.
Alex Wood's streak of innings pitched without allowing an earned run ended at 32 when the Huntsville Stars took a 1-0 lead with one out in the third. Shaw doubled and took third on a wild pitch. He then came in to score on an Ozzie Chavez ground out.
Huntsville extended its lead to 2-0 in the fifth when Rene Tosoni tripled and scored on a Shea Vucinich sacrifice fly to right field.
Rogers doubled and advanced to third on a Brock Kjeldgaard fly out to start the sixth. Robinzon Diaz followed with a triple to right, plating Rogers and making it a 3-0 game for the Stars.
Kjeldgaard belted a two-run home run beyond the scoreboard in left-center to make it a 5-0 game for the Stars in the top of the eighth. Rogers had reached on a single to left field prior to Kjeldgaard's sixth long ball of the season.
In his first rehab outing for the M-Braves, Luis Ayala worked a scoreless seventh. He had two ground outs and a strikeout.
Taylor Jungmann (3-4) started and went six frames for the Stars. He limited the M-Braves to just four hits and four walks while striking out two. Wood (2-2) worked six innings for the M-Braves, giving up three earned runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out two batters.
M-Braves right-hander Gus Schlosser (4-1, 3.50) takes the hill in game four of this five-game series Thursday night. He'll counter Stars righty Andy Moye (1-4, 6.21). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
