Mississippi Braves News Release
Montgomery, AL - In his first start since being named Southern League Pitcher of the Week, Gus Schlosser shined again to help the Mississippi Braves down the Montgomery Biscuits 8-2 on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Schlosser (4-1) allowed just two early runs over 6 2/3 innings before settling in and picking up his fourth consecutive victory. The Braves offense picked him up by tagging Montgomery starter Enny Romero (1-1) for four runs over four innings, and they never looked back.
The Biscuits (18-16) started the scoring in the first when Kevin Kiermaier ripped a triple and scored on Robby Price's RBI infield hit.
Then in the second, Todd Glaesmann and Kyeong Kang hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning, making it 2-0 Montgomery.
Schlosser limited the damage in both frames to just a run, keeping the Braves (22-12) close for an early comeback.
Christian Bethancourt put Mississippi on the board in the third with his RBI single, scoring Dan Brewer.
The Braves really jumped on Romero in the fourth, scoring three runs on three hits. Jaime Pedroza tied the game with a bases loaded sacrifice fly to right. Two batters later, Brewer drove in the go-ahead run with a single, putting runners on the corners with two outs.
On a pickoff throw to first to keep Brewer close, Mycal Jones broke from third for the plate and slid in safe for the Braves' first steal of home since July 30, 2011 when Antoan Richardson did it against Mobile.
Mississippi extended their lead with a two-run home run for Braeden Schlehuber in the eighth, and a two-run double for Bethancourt in the ninth.
The Braves have won 19 of their last 23 games and will go for their fourth win in the series against Montgomery in Saturday's finale at 6:35 PM CT. Right-hander Aaron Northcraft (1-2, 3.46) makes his sixth start of the year, facing right-hander Victor Mateo (1-4, 8.68). Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:00 PM CT with the "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at Mississippi Braves.com.
