Allen, TX (May 7th) - For the second straight time in the Allen Event Center, the Americans (11-6) used a second period run to pull away from Wichita (10-3), winning 5-1 on Tuesday night. Andrew Martens recorded his second goal of the playoffs and the only tally for Wichita. The series will move back to Wichita on Friday night with the Americans claiming its first lead of the series up three games to two.

Wichita had some extra jump at the start of the first period and scored the first goal for the third straight game. After Kale Kerbashian was sent for a five minute boarding penalty, Andrew Martens put a wrist shot from the top of the right circle past Aaron Dell to make it 1-0 at 10:57.

The Americans rolled off five unanswered, three of which were at the start of the second period and tallied three goals in the first six minutes. Todd Robinson tied the game 49 seconds in when he pounced on a loose puck and put it past Torrie Jung's glove. Three minutes later, Jim McKenzie caught a pass at his own blue line, skated down on a three-on-one break and put it under the arm of Jung to give Allen the lead for good. Tyler Ludwig scored his first of two at 6:35 to make it a 3-1 affair that redirected off a Thunder player in the net. Les Reaney then put Ludwig into the end wall behind the Allen net and was assessed a five minute major penalty for boarding. Allen capitalized and scored two on the man advantage. The first came with under a minute remaining in the second when Jamie Schaafsma came across the top of the goal mouth and redirected a shot in past Jung to make it 4-1.

At the start of the third, Ludwig scored his second goal of the game from the deep slot and ended the Allen run, making it 5-1. Wichita pressured late in the third period and had an 8-1 lead in shots at one point, but couldn't get anything past Dell.

Wichita loses back-to-back games for the first time in this post-season run and the Americans take its first lead of the series. The Thunder scored first for the third straight game, but were unable to hold onto the lead and are now 8-2 in the playoffs when scoring first. Kevin Young and Chad Painchaud collected assists in the game for the Thunder. Jung loses for the third time in the post-season, stopping 11 of 15 shots in 40 minutes of work. Kevin Regan came on in relief for the second time in the series, stopping 6 of 7 shots. Dell claims his 11th post-season win, stopping 26 of 27 shots.
