
RailHawks to Host Second Round of 100th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

CARY, N.C. (May 7, 2013) - The 100th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is coming to WakeMed Soccer Park on Tuesday, May 21st at 7:00pm when the Carolina RailHawks host a Second Round match against the winner of the Carolina Dynamo (PDL) and Chattanooga FC (NPSL). The U.S. Open Cup is a knockout style tournament that begin in 1914 and is open to U.S. Soccer affiliated clubs, both amateur and professional. The 2013 Open Cup will include the largest field with 68 teams participating.
"As we have previously, we will continue to place a great deal of importance on the U.S. Open Cup. We had a great run in the tournament including the victory over the Galaxy and it meant a great deal to our season," said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke. "We are delighted to be able to host the second round match and play another match in front of our home fans. It is important to have the support of your home crowd in a cup style tournament like this."
In 2012, the RailHawks hosted MLS Champion, LA Galaxy, in the Third Round of the competition in front of a sold-out crowd at WakeMed Soccer Park, who were entertained with a RailHawks 2-1 victory. In the Fourth Round, the RailHawks hosted Chivas USA (MLS) and were ousted when Chivas USA converted a second half stoppage time penalty kick.
Individual tickets for the May 21st U.S. Open Cup match will go on-sale immediately following the RailHawks match against the San Antonio Scorpions on Saturday, May 11th at 7:00p.m.
