REAL SALT LAKE CLOSES HOME STAND WITH VICTORY OVER VANCOUVER

Real Salt Lake closed out a three-game home stand with a solid 2-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, getting second-half goals from MF Luis Gil and MF Javier Morales to defeat the "˜Caps. FW Joao Plata assisted on both of Real Salt Lake's goals.

The Claret-and-Cobalt went 2-1-0 on the home stand, beating Chivas USA 1-0 on April 20 and falling 2-0 to the LA Galaxy on April 27 before downing Vancouver on Saturday.

RSL DF CARLOS SALCEDO BECOMES FIRST RSL-ARIZONA ACADEMY GRADUATE TO PLAY IN MLS

19-year-old Real Salt Lake DF Carlos Salcedo became the first Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy graduate to play in a MLS match when he came on for Plata in the 89th minute of Saturday's victory over Vancouver.

A 2012 graduate of RSL's Casa Grande, Ariz. Academy, Salcedo began training with the first-team full-time last summer. The former Mexican youth international made the 18 for RSL's first three matches of the season before suffering a concussion in the RSL Reserves 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids Reserves at Rio Tinto Stadium on March 16. His appearance in the 18 on Saturday was his first since suffering that injury.

REAL SALT LAKE HAMPERED BY INJURIES AT FORWARD

Real Salt Lake was again shorthanded at forward on Saturday, as leading scorer FW Alvaro Saborio (R quad tear) and FW Robbie Findley (L knee hyperextension) both missed the match due to injury. FW Olmes Garcia (R adductor strain) made the bench on Saturday but did not feature in the match.

Saborio will miss Wednesday's match due to injury, while Findley and Garcia are questionable.

Saturday's starting striker duo of Plata and rookie FW Devon Sandoval was the eighth different starting striker partnership RSL has used in 10 games this year. The Plata-Sandoval pair was the seventh different strike combination that started for RSL in its last seven games.

REAL SALT LAKE FW JOAO PLATA TIED FOR LEAGUE LEAD IN ASSISTS

Real Salt Lake FW Joao Plata assisted on both of RSL's goals on Saturday night against Vancouver. The Ecuadorian attacker now has four assists in eight appearances on the season, tying him for the league lead with Sporting Kansas City MF Graham Zusi. Plata had sole possession of the league lead on Saturday night, holding it until Zusi notched one assist in Kansas City's 4-0 home win over 10-man Chivas USA on Sunday afternoon.
