Fargo Force News Release
FARGO, ND -The Fargo Force selected eight players in Phase 1 of the 2013 USHL Draft on Monday night, one of which was a tendered player.
Christian Cakebread was signed to tender, which replaced Fargo's first "pick" in the Draft. Teams have the option to sign as many as two players in the tender process. This is the second year for the tender system in the USHL as teams secure an elite group of young players for their roster prior to the draft. All players signed to a tender prior to the 2013 USHL Draft will play a minimum of 50% of that team's games during the 2013-14 season. Defenseman Butrus Ghafari was the first tendered player in the USHL for Fargo last season.
"We are very happy with the players we selected", said Assistant Coach/Director of Player Personnel Jesse Davis following the draft. "We are looking forward to a bright future with them."
Each year, the drafts are held in which every USHL team participates in several rounds to select players for the 2013-14 season and beyond. For Phase 1 of the USHL Draft, previously known as the USHL Futures Draft, only players who were born in 1997 are eligible to be drafted. This single-age portion of the USHL Draft allows teams to choose players who are traditionally not ready to play in the USHL the following season, but will continue to develop at lower levels of hockey in preparation for USHL play in future seasons. The Club retains the draftee's rights for three years and can add the player to its active roster at any point during the season.
The Fargo Force selected the following players (in order of when selected):
