Cyclones Drop Another OT Heartbreaker, 3-2May 5, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL) - Cincinnati Cyclones Press Release
The Cyclones scored first for the second game in a row as Mathieu Aubin blasted his sixth goal of the postseason past Riley Gill (W, 44 saves, 7-2) on the power play at 7:56. The 1-0 lead would stand at the first intermission after Michael Houser (L, 27 saves, 8-6) turned aside all six shots he faced in the opening period.
The Royals answered back early in the second period when Bobby Shea sent a point shot over a heavily-screened Houser to knot things at one with 4:46 gone by. The deadlock would continue despite a pair of Reading power plays and the teams remained even after 40 minutes.
Reading pulled ahead just 1:20 into the third period as Dustin Stevenson beat Houser with a point shot, making it a 2-1 game. But at 11:31, Aubin collected his second power play goal from almost exactly the same place as his first to tie things at two. And as neither team found the net the rest of the period, Game 2 was sent into overtime.
Cincinnati was whistled for a pair of penalties early into the bonus session, but successfully killed off both to keep the game. Unfortunately, though, a bouncing puck later came through the Cyclones slot and found Alex Berry; the Reading forward snapped home his second of the postseason to end the contest at 13:42. The Royals prevailed 3-2.
