Normal CornBelters Announce Tryout Camp

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, will host a tryout camp on Tuesday, May 7 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The camp will be run by CornBelters Player Personnel Director, Nick Belmonte, and held at Duffy Bass Field on the campus of Illinois State University (ISU). The CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2013 season at The Corn Crib on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City Thunderbolts (CEFCU Opening Night).
"We are always looking for the diamond in the rough," said Belmonte. "There have been great stories through the years of star players being discovered at tyrout camps."
Belmonte has been signing players to professional contracts since 1990. In that time, he has signed over 1,500 players and counting. Several of his players have played Major League Baseball, most notably Rey Ordonez, Kevin Millar and Eddie Orepesa. From 2009-2011, 10 of his players were named to the Baseball America "Top 10 Independent Prospects List," including former CornBelters Bobby Pritchett, Travis Weaver and Pat Trettel. He started the Indy Pro Showcase in 2006, where he scours the country looking for the best college seniors and free agents available. Duffy Bass Field, the home of ISU Redbird baseball, features a gated complex with seating for over 1,000 spectators, concessions, restrooms, team dugouts and a state-of-the-art press box. It is one of college baseball's premier Midwest venues. In 2008, the facility underwent a $3.2 million renovation. In 2010, a new energy efficient LED scoreboard was installed beyond the right field wall. This off-season, in preparation for hosting the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) championships, ISU installed artificial turf on the infield. There will be a $75 registration fee charged upon arrival April 7. All participants will be required to fill out a liability waiver, wear baseball appropriate attire and bring their own baseball equipment.
