SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The San Rafael Pacifics have announced the signing of former Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect, Chris Scholl, to anchor their starting rotation in 2013.
Scholl, 25, was selected by the Angels out of Green River Community College (Auburn, Wash.) in the eighth round (259th overall) of the June 2008 First-Year Player Draft. In five minor league seasons, Scholl went 15-9 with a career 3.33 ERA. His best year came in 2008 for the Rookie Orem Owls, when the then 20-year old went 4-2 with a 2.06 ERA in 43 innings. The following season, for Class A Cedar Rapids, Scholl struck out 90 batters while only allowing 37 walks in 84 innings. In his career, Scholl has 318 strikeouts next to only 102 walks, fanning nearly nine batters for every nine innings he pitched.
"We are extremely excited to have a pitcher of Chris' caliber join our ballclub," Pacifics President and General Manager Mike Shapiro said. "He's got top of the rotation stuff and has consistently demonstrated command of all his pitches. He gets guys out, period."
In 2011, Scholl represented the Angels when he played for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League. Originally a reliever, he was converted to a starter towards the end of his major league career.
