Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals were on the right side of Thursday's rubber match against the St. Lucie Mets, winning 7-4 at Roger Dean Stadium.
Mets starter Domingo Tapia struggled tonight to say the least. Giving up a leadoff triple to CF James Ramsey, followed by back-to-back walks. Then proceeded to throw two wild pitches and walk another pair of batters before he was pulled with two outs in the first inning, all while collecting three earned runs.
St. Lucie would make it interesting in the third as they capitalized on three walks while placing a pair of timely hits, bringing the score to 2-3 entering the fourth. Despite scoring two more in the seventh, that was the closest the Mets would get, ultimately falling 7-4 in their second straight loss to the redbirds.
Palm Beach Starter Sam Gaviglio demonstrated great composure after hitting rough waters in the third when he walked the first three batters. The right-hander was able to settle down and escape the inning with minimal damage, courtesy of two ground-ball outs and a strikeout. Gaviglio got through six innings, giving up 3H, 2ER, 4BB and fanned six St. Lucie batters as he moves to 2-0 on the season.
Relief pitcher Ronnie Shaban notched his first save along with LHP Danny Miranda collecting his first hold.
Offensively for the redbirds, James Ramsey (2-3, 3B, HR, 2BB, 2RBI) and Danny Stienstra (2-3, HR, BB, RBI) led the charge as they both hit homers in tonight's game.
IF Colin Walsh extended his hitting streak to 6 games going 2-4 with a walk and a run scored.
The Palm Beach Cardinals will begin a three game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads starting tomorrow night, 6:35 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium.
