
Volcanoes Stadium to Host Futures Game

Keizer, OR;Volcanoes Stadium will host the 1st Annual Futures Game for area baseball players on the 4th of July this summer.The game will feature the best baseball prospects from the State of Oregon.Major League Baseball Scouts from all 30 Major League clubs will be invited to this showcase event that will featurethe most talented baseball prospects in the State.In addition, numerous College coaches are expected to be in attendance making this truly one of the biggest events of its kind in the region.
Double header with Home Run Derby:The format will feature a twi-night doubleheader with two seven inning games, one beginning at 4:00pm, and the nightcap at 7:15pm. In between games, will feature a Home Run Derby, beginning approximately at 6:30pm.
Fireworks:Immediately after the second game, following a Stadium tradition that began 17 years ago, the Volcanoes' fabulous 4th of July fireworks extravaganza will conclude the spectacular event.
"We are proud to sponsor this event and continue to enrich baseball in Oregon," said Salem-Keizer Volcanoes owner Jerry Walker."With the successes of the University of Oregon Beavers and the University of Oregon Ducks, Oregon is has become a hotbed for baseball prospects.Our goal is to provide them a terrific venue and opportunity to showcase their talents - - hopefully some of these players will someday play for the Volcanoes!" concluded Walker.
Long-time baseball veteran, the Volcanoes' Jerry Howard will take the lead role organizing the Futures Game.Dan Segel, President of the Corvallis Knights Baseball Club and the Oregon All-Star Series is serving as a consultant for the event.In addition, Howard plans to enlist the assistance of Jeff McKay who is the Head Baseball Coach for Corban University, President of Baseball Northwest and spent more than 25 years as a Big League scout."Invitations to participate in the games will be sent out over the next few weeks," said Howard."We have a vast network of players and are in the process of determining the final invitations," added Howard."Saying that, there may be someone who has gone unnoticed and we want everyone to have the opportunity to be considered for the great event.If you'd like to nominate a player or players for these games you are invited to do so by contacting me at j.howard@volcanoesbaseball.com," concluded Howard.
Coaches for the games are currently being selected and an announcement is expected soon and is likely to include at least one former Major League Player and #1 Draft Pick and a professional manager who won several League Championships.
