Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, Pa - According to officials at CONSOL Energy Park, the Chicago White Sox have released Darian Sandford, who will return to The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial.
Sandford split his time in 2012 between the Southern Illinois Miners and the Wild Things, scoring a combined 70 runs on 89 hits with 25 RBI and set the frontier league single season record with 71 stolen bases.
"Darian had a very good spring with the White Sox and he spent every inning playing second base," said Bart Zeller, Wild Things' field manager. He is one of the fastest outfielders in the league and his record in stolen bases for the Frontier League opened a lot of people's eyes. We are excited about having him at the top of our order."
Sandford, a St. Louis Missouri native, was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 47th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft from Park University. He spent the summer of 2010 with the Arizona Royals and he played for Idaho Falls in the Pioneer League during the 2011 season.
The Wild Things, who will host the 2013 Frontier League All Star Game in July, are gearing up for their season opener, scheduled for Friday May 24th.
