Edge Pull Away from Haymakers

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Edge, led by five touchdown passes from David Knighton, claimed a 62-46 victory in Champions Professional Indoor Football League play over the Lincoln Haymakers on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Edge (2-2) took their first lead at 6-3 on an Andre Raymond six-yard touchdown run with 2:39 remaining in the first quarter, then traded scores with two Bloomington touchdown catches in the second quarter from Jasonus Tillery and one from LaVaughn Macon to take a 28-19 halftime lead.

Macon ran back the kickoff to open the second half 54 yards for a score, coupled with a 21-yard touchdown reception from Knighton to Tillery with 2:17 left in the third quarter to take a 42-26 lead into the final period. The Edge put the game out of reach on fourth quarter touchdowns including on a 47-yard interception return by Caleb Young, a Marcus Lewis two-yard reception and a one-yard run by Raymond.

Knighton was 15-of-22 passing for 204 yards and five touchdowns without an interception, and led the Edge in rushing with 25 yards on six carries. Tillery led all receivers with 84 yards on five catches and three touchdowns.

Quarterback Blake Boiles was 9-of-19 with one interception and two touchdowns for 102 yards for Lincoln (2-2), while splitting time with A.J. Toscano, who was 6-of-14 for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Rhodes led Haymakers receivers with five catches for 71 yards and three touchdowns while Boiles led the guests in rushing with 34 yards on four carries. Ross Cochran led the Edge defensively with three solo tackles and five assists.
