Odessa Jackalopes News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - In the final game of the 2012-13 regular season, the Odessa Jackalopes were defeated by the Corpus Christi IceRays Saturday by a final score of 8-2 at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi. With the loss, the Jackalopes finished their 16th regular season in franchise history, and second year in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), with a 6-51-3 record and wound up alone in sixth-place in the NAHL's South Division standings with 15 total points.

In front of nearly 4,600 fans, the IceRays got out to a quick start Saturday, as rookie blueliner Jalen Schulz staked the 'Rays to a 1-0 lead on a floating wrister at 6:59 of the first. Quick to respond, Odessa defenseman Matt Montemurro punched back less than one minute later, when the Chicagoland native buried a Taylor Portner rebound chance to even the score at one apiece.

After Montemurro's goal the IceRays absolutely took over offensively, rattling off seven unanswered goals, including one power-play marker and two short-handed tallies, from Emil Romig, Joe Ginley, Charles Baldwin, Rudy Sulmonte, AJ Jarosz, Ryan McNeely and Romig again, respectively, to accumulate an insurmountable 8-1 advantage. A late John Feemster goal for Odessa, assisted by Jimmy Peplinski at 13:46 of the third period, capped the scoring and established the final score at 8-2 IceRays.

Odessa goaltender Nick Deery took the collar in the loss, surrendering six goals on 27 shots faced through the first two periods, before Erick Majerle took over in the third for the Jacks, stopping 14 of the 16 shots offered by Corpus Christi.

In a record-setting year for the Jackalopes franchise, the team finished 2012-13 on a franchise record winless streak, having dropped 21 consecutive games from January 26, 2013 until the end of the season, going a combined 0-20-1 over that span. The Jackalopes also set franchise records in 2012-13 with a 13-game home winless streak, 15-game road winless and losing streaks, a 16-game regulation losing streak and an 11-game home losing streak.

Anthony Olguin finished the season as the Jackalopes leading scorer with 12 goals and 30 total points and Odessa enforcer Steven Haydon finished the season with 12 fighting majors, tied for the league's highest total this season. The 2012-13 season marked Head Coach Paul Gillis' sixth campaign with Odessa and is the first year in which Gillis failed to lead the Jacks to the postseason.

In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season ticket packages for the Jacks' sophomore campaign are available now starting at just $179.
