Bradenton, Fla. - The Pittsburgh Pirates set new records for total attendance, average attendance, and single game attendance during the 2013 Grapefruit League season. The Pirates drew 93,433 people to 15 Spring Training home games at McKechnie Field.

The total attendance mark eclipsed the previous record of 88,003 (16 games) set in 2011.The average attendance at McKechnie Field this spring was 6,229 per game, surpassing the prior high mark of 5,500, also set in 2011.

A $10 million renovation of the 90-year-old ballpark expanded the capacity by approximately 2,000 people. The extra seating and standing room option allowed for record-setting sell-out crowds, including the new single-game record of 8,541 people, set on March 17 when the Pirates hosted the Yankees.

"Our record attendance this spring is a testament to the tremendous fans we have," Pirates President Frank Coonelly said. "The support we have enjoyed from our fans, whether they have been coming to McKechnie Field for 45 years or if they made their first visit this spring, is why we are so proud to call Bradenton our Southern home."

"These records are the culmination of a lot of hard work by our organization, the City of Bradenton, and Manatee County to make McKechnie Field such a comfortable place for our fans while keeping the classic ballpark feel," Pirates Senior Director of Florida Operations Trevor Gooby said.

Bradenton has been the Spring Training home of the Pirates since 1969. For more information about Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training, please call 941-747-3031 or visit www.BradentonMarauders.com .
