Saginaw Spirit News Release

On Sunday afternoon, Game Two of Quarter Finals of the 2013 playoffs saw the Saginaw Spirit taking the ice at Budweiser Gardens Arena in London. After the Knights took Game One while also on home ice, the Spirit were determined to bounce back.

Inside the glass during the first twenty minutes of play was quality hockey from both squads. Buffalo Sabres prospect and Spirit Assistant Captain Justin Kea was assigned the shut down role to handle the Knights offense. As well as standing his defensive ground, Kea jumped out of the penalty box and found himself in a two-on-one opportunity that gave Saginaw the 1-0 lead. The first goal of the game was assisted by Garret Ross. Spirit goaltender Jake Paterson turned in an outstanding first period that would be a common theme throughout the game, as he served London a shutout period.

Working with a 1-0 margin, Saginaw came wheeling into the second period with just as much energy as the first. While on a two man advantage power play, this season's breakout Spirit center Jimmy Lodge finished a flawlessly placed puck for a goal. His tally was assisted by Garret Ross and Dalton Young. Jake Paterson was once again outstanding in net, turning away all London shots on goal.

To get London on the board, Bo Horvat chipped in a goal, assisted by Ryan Rupert and Olli Maatta. Late is an understatement to describe the tying goal in the third period. With an extra attacker and .3 remaining in regulation, Bo Horvat found the back of the net again to send the game to overtime. Horvat's second goal had assists from Alex Broadhurst and Chris Tierney.

Nine minutes and eleven seconds into the second overtime, Chris Tierney buried the winning goal for London on the 70th shot on Spirit goalie Jake Paterson. The game winning goal was assisted by Alex Broadhurst and Tyler Ferry. London now leads the series 2-0, and will travel to Saginaw for games 3 and 4.
