Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs lost a tough one 4-3 to the Oshawa Generals in Oshawa on Sunday night and now trail their series 2-0.

The IceDogs would get off to a tough start to the game as Oshawa would pick up a goal at the 3:17 mark of the first and then extend the lead to two at the 14:17 mark of the frame, making it 2-0. The IceDogs would fight back with a goal of their own with 1:14 to go in the first, as Brendan Perlini would pick up his first of the playoffs to make it a 2-1 game. Unfortunately for the IceDogs, Oshawa would answer back with a goal of their own before the end of the period to make it a 3-1 game after one. Shots after one were 15-6 Oshawa.

The second period would see Oshawa extend their lead to 4-1 at the 9:07 mark of the frame. The IceDogs would not let up however and Ben Hughes would pick up his first career OHL goal to cut the IceDogs deficit to 4-2. Niagara would continue to battle and Jordan Maletta would bring the IceDogs within one, striking on the power play at 16:40 to make it a 4-3 game. That would prove to be it for scoring in the period, as the IceDogs headed to the intermission down one. Shots after 40 minutes were 28-16 Oshawa.

The third would see the IceDogs start the period on a 5-on-3 penalty kill for a full two minutes, but the IceDogs would put together a tremendous kill and keep within one. The IceDogs would try to use the momentum of the kill to help them find the equalizer, but despite their efforts, they would be unable to find the tying goal, falling by the same 4-3 final. Final shots were 38-26 Oshawa.

The IceDogs will now return home to St. Catharines for games three and four on Tuesday and Thursday, where they will look to draw even in the series. Things get underway both nights with the IceDogs pregame Fan Fests starting at 5pm, with puck drop scheduled for 7pm on both nights. Great tickets for both games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations!

Don't miss a second of the action, be sure to dress in black as we go "Back in Black" for games three and four and come join us at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Tuesday and Thursday!
