Charge Hold off Red Claws for Road Win

The visiting Canton Charge topped the Maine Red Claws, 91-87, on Friday night. The Charge improved their record to an East Division-leading 23-15 on the season while the Red Claws dropped to 21-19.

Canton came into tonight's game boasting the top scoring defense in the NBA D-League at 94.8 points per game, solidifying their case with their 87 points allowed tonight. The season series between the current top two teams in the East is now tied at 2-2 with two meetings left. The Charge won a closely contested 92-91 contest on their last visit to Portland on January 5th.

Six Charge players scored in double-digits in the game, led by Dominique Johnson's 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting in 28 minutes of relief off the bench. Arinze Onuaku and Micheal Eric each notched their 12th and 10th double-double of the season respectively for Canton. Onuaku netted 12 points with 14 boards and two steals in 29 minutes, while Eric scored 12 points with 10 rebounds and three blocks in just 19 minutes. Kyle Weaver added 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals in 37 minutes during his first start since joining Canton on February 25th.

The Red Claws were paced by DaJuan Summers' effort of 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes. Fab Melo had five points with six rebounds and seven blocks in 32 minutes on assignment from the Boston Celtics. In his first game with Maine since being traded from Canton, Josh Selby scored 14 points with three rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes.

The two teams will meet again at the Portland Exposition Building on Sunday, March 10th at 1:00 p.m.
