RiverKings Snap Losing Streak against HavocMarch 5, 2013 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) Mississippi RiverKings
After a scoreless first, the 'Kings jumped out with a pair of goals in the second. Mike MacDonald banged home his own rebound at the 7:58 mark of the middle frame to put the RiverKings up by one.The 'Kings struck again, shorthanded, when Tom Craig took Henry Coxe's pass and beat Dan McWhinney on a breakaway to put the RiverKings up 2-0. The goal was Craig's first of his professional career.
The third period saw the 'Kings offensive dominance continue. Matt Harrington put MacDonald's pass through the legs of McWhinney to put the 'Kings up by three 5:17 into the third. But the Havoc would cut the RiverKings' lead to two four minutes later. Stuart Stefan split the defense and beat Matt Krahn blocker side. The RiverKings responded with Harrington's second goal of the game, an empty-netter, that clinched the game for the 'Kings as they knocked off Huntsville 4-1.
Matt Krahn (11-13-4) picked up the win after stopping 30 of 31 shots against. Dan McWhinney (17-17-6) took the loss after turning aside 21 of 25 shots.
The RiverKings return to the ice Friday night in Columbus against the Cottonmouths. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. central time with all the action airing live on Sports 56, 87.7FM and the America One Sports Network.
