REAL SALT LAKE TO KICK OFF 2013 MLS REGULAR SEASON ON SUNDAY AT SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES

Real Salt Lake will kick off its 2013 MLS campaign on Sunday night, when the team will take on 2012 Supporters' Shield winners San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium at 8 p.m. MT. This is the third time in the last four years that RSL will open the season at San Jose. The Claret-and-Cobalt won its MLS season openers at the Earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, downing San Jose 3-0 on March 27, 2010 and beating the Bay Area side 1-0 on March 19, 2011.

Sunday's match will be broadcast live on CW30, ESPN 700 AM, and 102.3 La Gran D/1600 AM. CW30 will air the 30-minute Ford Pregame Show prior to the match and ESPN 700 will air hour-long pregame and postgame shows on Sunday night. Bill Riley and Brian Dunseth will have the call of the game on CW30. Riley will call the match after broadcasting the Utah-Stanford Men's Basketball game from Palo Alto, Calif. for ESPN 700 earlier in the day.

RSL will train twice in Utah this week, practicing at America First Field in Sandy at 12 p.m. MT on Wednesday and Thursday before traveling to San Jose on Friday. The Claret-and-Cobalt will train on Friday and Saturday in San Jose.

RSL finished second in the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup, losing the DDC Final 0-1 to Seattle Sounders FC at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. The Claret-and-Cobalt finished the tournament with a 1-2-1 record, tying the New York Red Bulls 2-2 on Feb. 13, losing 1-2 to Seattle on Feb. 16 and beating the New England Revolution 3-2 on Feb. 20 before falling to Seattle for a second time in Saturday's final.

Real Salt Lake spent its final preseason leg at the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup, staying in Southern Arizona for two weeks after training in Casa Grande, Ariz. from Jan. 21-28 and in Irvine, Calif. from Jan. 31-Feb. 8.

Real Salt Lake MF Luis Gil and the U.S. Under-20 National Team will take on Canada on Tuesday in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship Quarterfinals in Puebla, Mexico. The winner of the match will qualify for this summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. Tuesday's match will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel.

Gil played a major role in helping the U.S. win Group A and qualify for the Quarterfinals, scoring a goal in the Stars-and-Stripes' 2-1 win over Haiti last Monday and notching the assist in the U-20's 1-0 win over Costa Rica on Friday.

MF JAVIER MORALES, DF NAT BORCHERS AND DF CHRIS WINGERT TO MISS SUNDAY'S SEASON OPENER

Real Salt Lake MF Javier Morales (R Lateral Meniscal Tear), DF Nat Borchers (L Quad Surgery) and DF Chris Wingert (R Fractured Metatarsal) will all miss the Claret-and-Cobalt's match at San Jose on Sunday due to injury. All three players are currently rehabbing their knocks, with Morales expected to return in early to mid-March and Borchers and Wingert expected to get on the field in early to mid-April.

REAL SALT LAKE SIGNS FW OLMES GARCIA, GK JOSH SAUNDERS AND MF KHARI STEPHENSON

RSL added three players to its roster last week, signing FW Olmes Garcia on Thursday before adding GK Josh Saunders and MF Khari Stephenson on Friday.

A 20-year-old Colombian attacker, Garcia joins Real Salt Lake after spending the first two years of his professional career at Colombian First Division side Deportes Quindio. Blessed with good size and great speed, Garcia signed a five-year deal with RSL and will be a significant part of the club's long-term plans.

Saunders comes to RSL after starting for L.A. in the Galaxy's 2011 and 2012 MLS Cup winning seasons. The veteran goalkeeper will provide competition and experience behind starting GK Nick Rimando in the 2013 season.

Stephenson, 32, comes to RSL after spending the last 2 1/2 seasons with San Jose. The Jamaican international will play a valuable role for Claret-and-Cobalt Head Coach Jason Kreis in 2013, likely providing depth and getting the occasional spot start at several midfield positions.
