Diablo Play-By-Play Announcer Heads to AA Jacksonville

February 8, 2013 - American Association (AA) - El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX - The voice of the Diablos in 2012, Play-by-Play Broadcaster Matt Leland, will be heading east to Jacksonville, FL for 2013 to be one of two Play-by-Play Broadcasters for the Jacksonville Suns, the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.

Leland, a Millbrae, CA native, is a USC graduate with a BA in Broadcast & Digital Journalism. Before joining the Diablos, Leland gained experience with USC media organizations including student radio, news stations, and newspapers. Leland also had internships with the Los Angeles Kings Hockey Club and LA and San Francisco Media Outlets.

As the Diablo Play-by-Play Broadcaster in 2012, Leland announced all home and away games via the official Diablo webcast and on the official flagship station for the Diablos, Fox Sports Radio, 1380 AM. "Matt was by far the best broadcaster we've had in the eight years our organization has been at Cohen Stadium. He has a bright, successful future ahead of him, and we wish him the best," said Diablo President, Matt LaBranche.

"I am incredibly excited and humbled to be heading to Florida this summer to become a broadcaster for the Jacksonville Suns. I view it as another step towards accomplishing my dream of reaching the Major Leagues. That said, I will greatly miss all the wonderful people, players and coaches in El Paso. The Diablos gave me the kind of opportunity that I doubt I'd find anywhere else. I will always remember El Paso as the first stop on a long journey, one that will always hold a special place in my heart as I move forward," said Leland.

The Diablos 2013 season kicks off May 16th against the Amarillo Sox at Cohen Stadium, and wraps home games on August 25th with the Sioux City Explorers, and officially ends the season on the road in Gary SouthShore with the RailCats. With returning American Association Manager of the Year, Tim Johnson, at the helm, the Diablos are sure to make the most out of their 100-game schedule. Promotions will include Fireworks Fridays, Quartermania Sundays, $1 Beer Thursdays, Military Nights, character appearances, and FREE Saturdays.
