Nominees Sought for Maine High School Basketball Team of the Year

The Maine Red Claws and Maine McDonald's® are seeking nominations for Team of the Year based on community service, sportsmanship and academic excellence.

Portland, Maine - The Maine Red Claws and the Maine McDonald's® Owner/Operator Association are seeking nominees for the 2013 Team of the Year Award program. The award honors two Maine high school varsity basketball teams - one boys and one girls - who will each receive $1,000 for their schools' basketball programs. The selected teams will be recognized at a Maine Red Claws game this spring.

"We are excited and honored to announce that Maine McDonald's Owner/Operators and the Maine Red Claws are collaborating for the third year on this award that recognizes Maine high school basketball excellence on the court and in the community," said Edie Lydick, Portland area McDonald's Owner/Operator. "It is a great partnership that benefits outstanding high school basketball programs and inspire basketball players at all levels across Maine."

Nominations for the Team of the Year award are being sought and high school basketball coaches throughout the state are encouraged to make strides with their varsity teams to be in contention for this award. A committee comprised of representatives from McDonald's of Maine, Maine Red Claws, and the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches will review the nominations and select one boys and one girls varsity team that have made "an exceptional impact on Maine High School Basketball and in the lives of others."

TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD CRITERIA:

The Maine McDonald's and Maine Red Claws Team of the Year Award honors two Maine high school varsity basketball teams - one boys and one girls - that have made an exceptional impact on Maine High School Basketball and in the lives of others through:

Contribution to Community Exemplifying Sportsmanship Team Competitiveness and SpiritCommitment to Academic Excellence

NOMINATION PROCESS:

Coaches, parents, principals, community organizations, athletic directors, and anyone knowing of a Maine Varsity High School Basketball Team meeting the criteria are encouraged to submit a nomination form. Nomination forms are available at: http://vote.mainemcdonaldsbasketball.org/

Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games

The 2013 All-Star Games scheduled for March 8 and 9 will mark McDonald's 25th consecutive year as lead sponsor of this hallmark sporting event that honors more than 100 Maine high school student athletes and coaches. Net proceeds from the Games benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of Maine. Last year the 2-day event raised more than $17,000 for the Charities. RMHC of Maine is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help Maine children and families lead happier, healthier and more productive lives. Since it was founded in 1989, RMHC of Maine has granted more than $1.8 million to local children's programs that have made a measurable impact in our communities.
