Jam's Rally Falls Short

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (17-8) rallied from double digits down Saturday, but couldn't catch the visiting Reno Bighorns (9-12) in a 111-105 defeat that ended a six-game winning streak.

It was an uphill battle for Jam all game. Bakersfield struggled to get stops on the defensive end in the first half and went into the break with a double-digit deficit (62-49). In the second half, the Bighorns continued to lead as they led by as many as 20 points in the third period and by as many as 16 in the fourth. The Jam did not go away easily though as they fought back and came within two points (107-105) in the final seconds of the game. However, Reno made free-throws in the last couple of seconds to seal the win. The Bighorns shot 23 more free-throws (31/44) than the Jam (18/21).

All five Jam starters scored in double figures, led by Damion James who posted a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds. Phoenix Suns assignee Diante Garrett scored 22 points and had a team-high eight assists. Jerel McNeal had 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals while Brian Butch recorded his 11^th double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Adam Koch finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Walker Russell led the Bighorns with a double-double of 24 points and 11 assists while Dar Tucker scored 20 points and had seven rebounds. Samardo Samuels finished with 16 points.

Bakersfield will next travel to LA to face the D-Fenders on Wednesday, January 30 at 7 p.m. PT.
