Edmonton Oilers Recall LW Kristians Pelss from Thunder to Oklahoma City

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, announced today that Edmonton has recalled rookie left wing Kristians Pelss (PELSH, KRIS-tee-yans) from the Thunder to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

Pelss, 20, has earned five points and 15 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Thunder this season and scored a goal in his ECHL debut on Nov. 2 vs. Bakersfield.

The 5-foot-11 and 175 pound forward was born in Preili, Latvia and selected by Edmonton in the seventh round (181st overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He began the season in Oklahoma City and collected two assists and a +1 rating in three AHL games.

Pelss skated for Latvia in the 2011 and 2012 World Junior Championships, earning a gold medal (Division-I) in the 2010-11 season. His resume includes seven points (3g-4a) in 11 career tournament games and captaincy of Latvia last season.

The Thunder returns to play on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. (1280 KWSX/StocktonThunder.com), visiting the San Francisco Bulls at the Cow Palace.

A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12.
