Atlanta Gladiators News Release


The Gwinnett Gladiators earned three wins last week, knocking off the Greenville Road Warriors twice and defeating the Trenton Titans. The Gladiators have earned a record of 18-6-1-0 on the season. Gwinnett remains in first place and extended their lead to nine points in the South Division. The Gladiators have earned 37 points and rank first overall in the ECHL. Gwinnett begins a five game road trip on Thursday in Greenville.

Greenville Preview: The Greenville Road Warriors are currently second in the South Division behind the Gwinnett Gladiators. Gwinnett posted a 5-2 win over the Road Warriors in the last meeting between the squads on Saturday night. Greenville lost their last game to the South Carolina Stingrays 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Greenville Road Warriors are led by Forward Brandon Wong who has collected 24 points in 25 games played. Goalie Nathan Lieuwen has won eight of the 17 games with Greenville. The Road Warriors are 3-6-0-1 in their last 10 games.

Saturday, 12/15: Game @ South Carolina - 7:05 p.m.

South Carolina Preview: South Carolina won the last meeting between the two teams as the posted a 2-0 shutout on December 1st at the North Charleston Coliseum. The South Carolina Stingrays are currently share second in the South Division with 28 points. South Carolina has won their last six games and are 7-2-0-1 in their last ten games.

Friday November 7: Gwinnett 5, Greenville 4 - W

"ªThe Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Greenville Road Warriors after Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored the winning goal in the fourth round of the shootout. Team Captain Andy Brandt scored the first goal for Gwinnett 3:22 into the first. Ryan Donald added another for Gwinnett 4:32 into the first. After falling behind 4-3, Dallas Jackson scored on the power play with 2:42 left in the third to send the game to overtime before Gwinnett notched the win in the shootout.

Saturday November 9: Gwinnett 5, Greenville 2 - W

Gwinnett returned to the Arena at Gwinnett Center and defeated the Greenville Road Warriors 5-2. John Scrymgeour scored the first goal of the game for the Gladiators 6:26 into the first. Tied 2-2 at the beginning of the third period, rookie Doug Jones scored the game winner 4:22 into the period. Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored on a penalty shot to push the lead to 4-2 while Evan Bloodoff rounded out the scoring with 6:43 left in the third.

Sunday November 10: Gwinnett 5, Trenton 2 - W

The Gladiators earned their thrid consecutive win with a 4-2 victory over the Trenton Titans in the first meeting between the two teams this season. Gwinnett earned the win with two goals in the third period. Trenton scored first but the Gladiators answered and used two goals by Tyler Murovich, once in the first and his second in the final period was the game winner, to lead Gwinnett.

News & Notes:

One Goal: The Gladiators posted a 5-4 shootout win over the Greenville Road Warriors Friday night at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville. It was the 15th time this season the Gladiators have skated in a game decided by one goal. Gwinnett has posted an 10-4-1-0 record in one-goal games this season.

A Pair: Gladiators forward Andy Brandt notched two goals for Gwinnett in Friday's 5-4 shootout win over the Greenville Road Warriors. For Brandt, it was his first multiple goal game of the season. The Wausau, Wisconsin native now has eight multiple goal games in his career and all have come with Gwinnett.

Moving Up: Andy Brandt is now two assists away from reaching 100 assists for the Gladiators. He earned his 98th career assist with the Gladiators in last night's 5-2 win over the Greenville Road Warriors.

Firsts: Two players earned their first goal of the season for Gwinnett last week. Defenseman Ryan Donald notched his first goal of the season with Gwinnett in Friday's 5-4 shootout in over Greenville. In addition, forward John Scrymgeour earned his first goal of the season in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Road Warriors.

To the A: Goaltender Mike Lee was called up to the Portland Pirates of the AHL last week. He earned his first AHL win in his first AHL appearance on Saturday night. Brought into the game in relief and down 2-0, Lee made 28 saves in a 4-3 shootout win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Lee ranked second in goals against average and save percentage among ECHL netminders at the time of his recall.

On the Board: Forward Jason Clark was assigned to the Gladiators on Monday from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL by the New York Islanders of the NHL. In his ECHL debut with the Gladiators on Friday night in Greenville, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native collected an assist for Gwinnett. He also had an assist in Saturday night's 5-2 win over the Road Warriors. Clark had two points in four AHL games with Bridgeport this season.
