Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting Club announced the transition of day-to-day management of LIVESTRONG Sporting Park stadium operations from Global Spectrum, as part of an agreement the two companies had prior to the opening of the facility. The transition is expected to be completed by January 1, 2013.
"To open any stadium is an arduous process, especially when our goal was to create the finest stadium of its size with the top technology infrastructure in the world," said Chief Operating Officer Alan Dietrich. "We knew we would benefit from the expertise of Global Spectrum to help us get our stadium open and functioning. We are grateful for all of the hard work and dedication from Global Spectrum associates over the last two years.
"We could not be more proud and thankful for all that has been put into making LIVESTRONG Sporting Park a premier destination for sports and entertainment and all the subsequent awards it has garnered," added Dietrich. "We would like to thank Global Spectrum for helping us get LIVESTRONG Sporting Park to where we are today."
Sporting Club will continue its mission to present world-class experiences to all stadium guests.
Since its opening in June of 2011, LIVESTRONG Sporting Park has hosted many prominent events, received numerous awards and is regarded as one of the finest stadiums in the world. The stadium's inaugural season saw not only Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City win the Eastern Conference in its new home, but it also hosted the 2011 Gold Cup, the U.S. Women's National Team, international friendlies and concerts such as FarmAid. LIVESTRONG Sporting Park received recognition locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, garnering many awards for venue, fan experience and technology.
In its second season, LIVESTRONG Sporting Park continued to impress. Along with Sporting Kansas City's full home schedule, selling out 17 of the 18 MLS games, including the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championship and nine nationally televised home games, LIVESTRONG Sporting Park hosted concerts such as Journey, special events like Cerner Corporation's Town Hall and a crucial sold-out World Cup Qualifier for the United States Men's National Team.
"We would like to congratulate Sporting Club on a terrific facility," said Global Spectrum Chief Operating Officer John Page. "From the on-set with Sporting Club it was their desire to one day fully operate the stadium on their own. Our role was to assist them in getting the stadium ready for its opening and to help them. It has been our pleasure to work closely with them on making sure the stadium would be a tremendous facility for Major League Soccer."
LIVESTRONG Sporting Park was also recognized at TheStadiumBusiness Awards in Turin, Italy. LSP received the highly acclaimed Venue of the Year award and the Product Innovation Award. LIVESTRONG Sporting Park was also nominated by the Sports Business Awards for facility of the year.
