IN JUST A FEW HOURS...

The Springfield Falcons close out their stretch of nine home contests in 11 games to begin the 2012-2013 season on Sunday when they welcome the Norfolk Admirals to the MassMutual Center at 5:00 p.m. Springfield blanked the Connecticut Whale on Friday night at The Nest, 2-0, as Tim Erixon scored twice while Curtis McElhinney stopped all 20 shots for his seventh victory and third shutout of the season. The Falcons take the league's best record into today's contest, as their standings points percentage of .800 is the highest among all 30 clubs. Springfield has earned points in six-straight games (4-0-0-2) entering today's contest against the Admirals, who enter Sunday's action losers of two straight.

After today's game, Springfield embarks on a four-game road trip to Wilkes-Barre Scranton, Norfolk, and Portland. The Falcons return home for "Movember Night presented by Baystate Health" on Saturday, Nov. 24 against the Manchester Monarchs. The first 1,000 fans into the building that night will receive mustaches as part of an effort to generate awareness of prostate cancer and other male illnesses.

Single-game tickets to see the Falcons in 2012-2013 can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. through game time on Saturday home dates, and starting four hours prior to Sunday home contests. Fans can also purchase tickets by logging onto Ticketmaster.com. For information about discounted group packages to Falcons home games, call (413) 739-GOAL (4625).

POINTS STREAK EXTENDED

The Falcons have captured points in six-straight games for the first time since they went 3-0-2-1 from Mar. 13 to 26 in 2010. The franchise record for the longest point-earning streak is nine games, accomplished most recently from Mar. 6 to 28 in 1997 (9-0-0) and also from Oct. 19 to Nov. 16 in 1996 (7-0-2).

SILENCING THE ENEMY

In capturing its third shutout of the season on Friday, Springfield's club goals-against average dropped to 1.70, now the best in the league. The Falcons have allowed two goals or fewer through regulation and overtime in nine of their 10 games, permitting only Providence to score three times in Springfield's sole regulation defeat of the season, 3-1, on Oct. 20. Curtis McElhinney's seven wins and three shutouts are tied for the most in the league, while his .949 save percentage and 1.44 goals-against average are both third in the AHL. The Falcons' previous team record of the fastest three shutouts to start a season was 30 games in 1995-1996. They have three in 10 games in 2012-2013. Springfield's mark for shutouts by a goaltender in one season is five by Manny Legace in 1995-1996.
