Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals will honor World War II veteran George Michel (pronounced Michael) before their game on Friday, November 9th, as they pay tribute to all veterans and active military personnel. Michel will be doing a pre-game ceremonious puck drop with the captains from each team.

In 1943 Michel was drafted into the United States Air Force at the ripe age of 18, and, along with some many of his peers, underwent rigorous training to prepare him for future combat. Upon completion of training he was assigned to a B24 bomber crew, in which his duties were radio operator and gunner. Michel was sent to England with the 392nd Bomb Group in 1944 and his first bombing mission was on June 11, 1944, just five days after D-Day.

Thirty days after his first mission Michel's plane was damaged on a bombing mission to Munich, Germany. The plane crashed in Sweden, all the members survived but they were held as POW's. Through the help of the French Underground Mr. Michel escaped custody and returned to the United States

In addition, the Admirals will also honor Army Master Sergeant Matt Curler during the Hometown Hero portion of the game in the second period. Curler has received four Army Commendation Medals for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. He has done two combat tours, both in Iraq, in 2004 and 2009.

This is the sixth consecutive season that the Admirals have offered free tickets to all veterans and active military personnel in their game immediately preceding Veterans Day. Interested vets just need to bring their military ID, VFW Card, or a copy of their DD214 papers to the BMO Harris Bradley Box Office Window.

For tickets for non-veterans, fans should call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visit www.ticketmaster.com . Groups of 10 or more receive significant discounts off the original ticket price. For more information, or to purchase group tickets, fans can call the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550.
