Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgewater, N.J. - September 21, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (35-32, 66-71) defeated the Somerset Patriots (29-38, 64-73) by a score 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday. Bridgeport is 8-10 against Somerset this season, but the road squad was eliminated from postseason contention as a result of a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs victory against the Lancaster Barnstormers Friday.

Prentice Redman smacked his nineteenth homer of the season in the first inning with a solo shot to leftcenter; then he earned a bases clearing double in the eighth as the outfielder drove in four on the night and scored two runs. That double tied the record held by Wes Bankston (39 doubles) who set the mark in 2011. Willis Otanez deposited an RBI single to rightcenter in the sixth frame to account for all the Bluefish offense. Eddie Rogers reached base for the 17th game in his last 18 as the shortstop contributed two hits while scoring two runs. Joey Gathright and Brad Boyer each collected a hit and came to the plate once for the winning team.

Somerset scored the squads' only run of the night on an RBI grounder to third base by Jesse Hoorelbeke. Collin Curtis had two hits and scored a run for the Patriots.

Bridgeport starter, Brad Thompson (6-5), earned the win as the righthanded hurler delivered a complete game. Thompson gave up one run on six hits and one walk while striking out five.

Somerset starter, Justin Cassel (6-11), suffered the loss as the righthanded tosser gave up five runs on seven hits while fanning seven in seven-and-two-thirds frames. Two relievers combined to throw the final one-and-one-third innings. The tandem did not allow a baserunner and struck out one Bluefish batter

Bridgeport continues the final regular season series on the road against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch is at 7:05. The game can be found on bridgeportbluefish.com.
