Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Skeeters concluded the four-game series against the Ducks with a heart-pounding 4-3 win in the finale in front of 5495 fans at Constellation Field Monday night. Sugar Land finished (9-11) against the Ducks in the regular season and (6-4) at home.

With a record-setting 22,886 in attendance over the three-day weekend, the Skeeters have now seen 425,025 in attendance through 64 home openings. The club's average home attendance mark of 6,641 puts the Skeeters in the top ten percent of all minor league baseball teams in 2012.

The Skeeters took to scoring first in the bottom of the second off starter Bobby Blevins after a scoreless first inning in game four Monday night. Josh Pressley started the inning off with a single and was quickly pushed to third by another from Bubba Bell into left. One batter later, Ofilio Castro knocked in his 49th run of the year with a RBI single into right to give the Skeeters a 1-0 lead. Two batters later after Bell moved to third on a fly-out into right from Steve Moss, Iggy Suarez knocked him in with a sac-fly up the middle, 2-0.

Scott Kazmir got the start for Manager Gary Gaetti and the Skeeters coming off two-consecutive wins in his last two starts. The lefty dealt five-scoreless innings before he was pulled after taking a liner off his shoulder on a single from Ray Navarrete in the third. Kazmir struck out five and walked one while scattering six singles.

Blevins was pulled after working five and two-thirds innings while striking out just two batters and walking three. He gave up two earned runs on nine hits. Eric Niesen made his second appearance of the series to finish up the bottom of the sixth with a strikeout of Dionys Cesar.

Jeff Farnsworth replaced Kazmir to pitch two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh giving up four hits and a walk while striking out two. The Ducks left the bases loaded in the sixth and two in scoring position in the seventh off Farnsworth before he was pulled for Saul Rivera to pitch the eighth.

Saul Rivera (2-0) entered in the eighth for his first appearance of the series, but trouble befell the sure-handed righty after Joash Brodin reached on an error from shortstop Dominic Ramos to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Lee Cruz knocked a home run (3) deep to left-center field to tie the game, 2-2.

Jeremy Hill (5-7) pitched for the second night in a row, but for the first time in eight outings against the Skeeters he gave up a run. In fact, the righty allowed two to cross home plate giving Sugar Land a 4-2 lead. Castro led off the inning with a single and was pushed to second on a sac-bunt by Steve Moss. Suarez drove him in with a RBI double to take the lead, 3-2, and Dominic Ramos two batters later brought Suarez in with one of his own, 4-2.

Gary Majewski came in to pitch the ninth trying for his first save against the Ducks in eight chances. With two outs in the inning, Brandon Sing registered his first base hit off the batter's eye in deep center field. The triple put him in scoring position for Joash Brodin to drive him in one batter later with a RBI single up the middle, 4-3. Majewski picked up his 22nd save when Matt Esquivel flew out to center to end the game.

Coming up next...The Sugar Land Skeeters (30-28) hit the road for the final time this season to face the Somerset Patriots for two games and the Bridgeport Bluefish for four games over five days with only 12 games remaining this season.
