New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - Chris Curran's double in the bottom of the eighth tied the score at three, but a two-out rally by the Capitales in the top of the ninth plated two on their way to a 5-3 win. They take a 2-1 advantage in the Can-Am Championship Series.

New Jersey was 9-0 in the regular season when Steve Fox throws following a loss.

With the score tied at three in the ninth inning, Jeff Gogal induced two hasty ground outs, but Patrick D'Aoust singled to left center, Josh Colafemina followed with a dinky blooper over the second-base bag, and Jeff Helps lined one off of a leaping Francisco Caraballo at first to put the Capitales ahead 4-3 on their way to the 5-3 win.

Of the 22 games these two teams have played this year, six have been tied in the ninth inning.

On a hot, humid Friday evening at Yogi Berra Stadium the Jackals struck first. A Caraballo two-run, first-inning home run to right-center gave New Jersey the quick 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Capitales loaded the bases with thanks to three consecutive one-out singles. A Steve Brown sacrifice fly cut the deficit in half. Two innings later, Monday's hero Josue Peley singled through the right side to bring home the game-tying run. Brown's double two batters later would bring home Peley to give Quebec their first lead of the day, 3-2.

Brown was 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

The Jackals responded two innings later. With Rembisz still in the game, Matt Nandin lead off the eighth inning with a single. Chris Henderson sacrificed him over, making way for Curran's RBI double to left field.

Following the double, Roque Mercedes relieved Rembisz and struck out Angel Berroa and Caraballo to end the threat. Mercedes throws just those two-thirds of an inning to earn the win, improving to 1-0 this postseason.

Rembisz gets the no-decision. He throws seven-and-a-third innings and allows three runs off seven hits.

The Capitales' heroics off Gogal for the second straight time give the Capitales the 2-1 advantage in the series. In the regular season finale, the Capitales issued Gogal only his second loss of the season thanks to Peley's walk-off single.

Gogal throws two innings and gives up two runs, one earned, in two innings of work, dropping to 0-1 in the postseason.

After throwing a four-out save yesterday, Capitales' closer T.J. Stanton once again shut down the Jackals in a scoreless ninth for his second save in as many chances this postseason.

Nandin was the only Jackals player with a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with a run scored on the day.

Tomorrow, the Jackals will send out Kyle Greenwalt (8-3, 4.22). He will oppose Jaimie Richmond, fresh off the DL for his first start since August 16th.

First pitch tomorrow is 6:35 with the pregame show beginning 10 minutes prior. It's fireworks night - the festivities will commence following the final pitch.
