
Brodin's Walk-Off Homer Propels Ducks to 6-5 Victory

Central Islip, NY - The Long Island Ducks (16-35, 55-65) defeated the Somerset Patriots (25-29, 60-64) 6-5 in eight innings Wednesday night from Bethpage Ballpark in game one of this doubleheader. Down 5-3 in the eighth inning, left fielder Joash Brodin slugged a walk-off three run home run (3) to snap the Ducks six game losing streak.
The Patriots plated two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke and first baseman Corey Smith each notched two out RBI doubles.
Somerset tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning as right fielder Colin Curtis laced a RBI double to expand the lead to 3-0
The Ducks rallied to tie the game at 3-3 as Brandon Braboy blew his first save of the season. Designated hitter Lee Cruz smacked a RBI double and Brodin hit a game tying pinch hit two RBI single as the Ducks forced extra innings.
With two outs in the top of the eighth left fielder Johnny Drennen hammered a go ahead two run home run (7) to deep right field to give Somerset a 5-3 advantage.
In the ensuing half inning Brodin clobbered a walk-off three run home run to left field off reliever Andrew Dobies to give the Ducks their eighth walk-off win of the season.
Jeremy Hill earned his fifth win of the season. Dobies suffered his fourth loss of the year.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, September 7th when the Patriots return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. The game features a Post-Game Fireworks Show and Diabetes Awareness Night.
