
Pitching Leads Bluefish to Victory

Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Lancaster, PA. - September 5, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (25-26, 56-65), won the teams' second straight game against the Lancaster Barnstormers (34-19, 79-44) by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Bridgeport is 5-11 against Lancaster this season and trails Southern Maryland by five games in the Liberty Division standings.
Bridgeport scored three runs in the second inning and one more in the fifth. Brad Boyer and Eddie Rogers each had RBI doubles in the second frame.
Rogers earned two doubles on the night while Boyer picked up two hits for the winning side. Willis Otanez extended his on-base streak to twelve by driving in the only other run on the night for the Bluefish. He served an RBI single to right in the fifth. James Simmons reached base on a single and a walk. The outfielder also saved the Bridgeport lead in the eighth by making a sliding catch in the leftcenter gap off the bat of Kody Kirkland with two outs and runners at the corners. Luis Rodriguez, Luis Figueroa, and Joey Gathright earned one hit each on Wednesday.
Lancaster pushed a runner across in the second, third, and fifth frames. Ryan Harvey hit a solo shot in the second inning, Blake Gailen produced an RBI double in the third frame and a sacrifice fly in the fifth to account for the home teams' offense. The outfielder had two hits on the night
Bridgeport starter, Brad Thompson (4-4), earned the victory as the righthanded hurler delivered six innings of three run, six hit, one walk, and one strikeout baseball. Jesse English allowed one walk and struck out one in a scoreless seventh. Julio DePaula gave up one hit and walked two in the eighth while Rommie Lewis retired the Barnstormers in order in the ninth to pick up his third save. Lewis fanned one in the last inning.
Lancaster hurler, Dwayne Pollok (12-3), suffered the loss as the righthanded hurler surrendered four runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out three. Ross Peeples and Joe Bateman threw two scoreless frames. The tandem allowed one hit and struck out two.
The Bluefish finish a road series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Bridgeport will send righthanded pitcher, Jonah Bayliss (3-7, 5.22 ERA) against Lancaster righthanded starter Alan Johnson (13-5, 5.11 ERA).
