New Jersey Jackals News Release
Jackals starter Steve Fox improved to 9-0 following a Jackals loss this season, throwing six one-run innings to help New Jersey to a 3-1 win over the Quebec Capitales on a crisp, clear night at Le Stade Municipal.
Tonight was the penultimate game of the regular season, an appetizer to the 2012 Can-Am Championship Series between these two teams starting Wednesday in Quebec. The Capitales clinched home field advantage about a week ago.
New Jersey was down 1-0 early, but put runners on the corners with one out in the third inning to precede Chris Curran's RBI ground out.
One inning later, All-Star second baseman Angel Berroa blooped a single over Josh Colafemina's head at second to bring home Gaetano Giunta.
Edgard Clemente's first Jackals home run to lead off the eighth inning finalized the scoring at 3-1. Clemente was the only player for either side with a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a home run, a double, and two runs scored.
Rookie starter Dustin Crenshaw gets the loss for the Capitales. The righty allowed three runs in eight innings of work to drop to 2-1.
Fox allowed just a first-inning unearned run, holding the Capitales to two hits through six efficient innings to improve to 13-3.
Fox struck out seven in his final start of the season falling one shy of the Can-Am single season record. John Kelley struck out 130 in split time with the Brockton Rox and Jackals in 2007.
Closer Keith Cantwell struck out two in a scoreless ninth to earn his 16th save of 2012.
With the win, New Jersey improves to 59-40, ensuring they will not be swept in a series in 2012. The Capitales drop to 65-34.
Games three, four, and five (if necessary) of the Can-Am Championship Series will be played at Yogi Berra Stadium. You can purchase your tickets at Jackals.com or by calling (973) 746-7434.

Notes
Clemente's double to lead off the third was New Jersey's 1,000th hit of the season, becoming the first Can-Am team in history to do so... Bryan Sabatella singled in the fourth inning to push his on-base streak to a team-high 26 games... With one game left, New Jersey is sitting on 99 stolen bases. A stolen base tomorrow would make New Jersey the only 100 home run, 100 stolen base team in Can-Am history...
