Tigers Earn a 7-4 Win in Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT-The Connecticut Tigers (30-36) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and earned a 7-4 win over the Vermont Lake Monsters (27-40) at Centennial Field on Monday night.

RHP Efrain Nieves (1-1) pitched three and two-thirds innings to pick up the win.

The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning against Vermont RHP J.C. Menna (0-9). LF Danry Vasquez (2-5) singled and went to second base when DH Zach Kirksey (0-3) was hit by a pitch. 3B Tyler Hanover (2-3) walked to load the bases.

3B Edgar Corcino (1-4) hit a triple to right center field to score all three runners for a 3-0 lead.

The Lake Monsters scored a run in the fourth inning against Tigers RHP Angel Nesbit. SS Daniel Robertson (1-5) led off the inning with a single, went to second base on a ground out by 3B Jacob Tanis (1-4). 1B Miguel Marte (2-3) singled to load the bases and LF Austin Booker's (1-4) single scored Robertson for a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth inning Connecticut scored two runs. 2B Carlos De Los Santos (3-5) singled and was forced out at second base when CF Jake Stewart (0-4) reached on a fielder's choice. Vasquez doubled home Stewart. He moved to third base on a groundout by Kirksey and scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.

The Lake Monsters scored three runs in the sixth inning on a bases-clearing double by 2B Chris Bostick (2-4) to make it 5-4.

The Tigers scored a run in the seventh inning without the benefit of a hit. De Los Santos reached on an error, stole second base and went to third on a throwing error by C Bruce Maxwell. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Stewart for a 6-4 lead.

The Tigers got an RBI single in the eighth inning from RF Patrick Smith (2-4) for a 7-4 lead.

The Tigers and Lake Monsters finish their series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Montreal Robertson (0-3, 3.76) goes for Connecticut and RHP Andres Avila (1-4, 4.58) takes the mound for Vermont. Pre-game radio coverage starts at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at cttigers.com.
