New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - In what looked like an easy win after the first eight innings, the Fisher Cats (58-76) needed a walk-off single from Gabe Jacobo in the bottom of the ninth inning to complete a four-game sweep of New Britain (68-66) on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Jacobo finished the day 4-for-4, picking up his first home run to help the Fisher Cats extend their season-long home winning streak to seven games.
Jacobo's game-winner was set up after Sam Dyson allowed a game-tying grand slam in the top of the ninth inning, erasing a 7-3 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Jake Marisnick nearly ended the game win one swing, settling for a lead-off double off the top of the left field wall.
The rest of the inning pieced together with a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk. A second walk loaded the bases with two outs for Jacobo. The infielder, playing just his sixth game since returning from the disabled list, lofted a towering fly ball that eluded New Britain's left fielder on the warning track to end the game in the Fisher Cats favor.
New Hampshire built its early lead thanks to a pair of homers and two big innings. Ryan Schimpf (No. 6) and Jacobo (No. 1) hit solo homers in the second and eighth, respectively. Ryan Goins, Koby Clemens, and Joel Galarraga each drove in a run during a three-tally fifth. Clemens and Galarraga each plated another in the bottom of the sixth.
Deck McGuire took a no-decision, despite throwing a quality start. He was in line for his first home win since April before Dyson allowed the grand slam in the ninth inning. McGuire allowed three runs over six innings, striking out five.
Jacobo highlighted a 14-hit attack with his first four-hit game in the Blue Jays organization. Schimpf and Ryan Goins each had two hits while Clemens (1-2) and Galarraga (2-4) each drove in 2 runs.
