Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, MAINE (August, 20, 2012) - The Maine Red Claws today announced that the Boston Celtics will hold tryouts for prospective Red Claws players on Saturday, September 22 at the Celtics' Healthpoint practice facility in Waltham, MA. The single-day tryout format will include team drills, individual skills work and scrimmages.
The tryouts will be invitation only, and interested players are asked to send their basketball resume to Red Claws Director of Basketball Operations Cam Twiss at ctwiss@maineredclaws.com or PO Box 15180, Portland, ME 04112 no later than Friday, Sept. 7. The number of participants will be limited and must meet NBA Development League player eligibility requirements. Up to three players from tryouts may be invited to the Red Claws' training camp in November.
The Red Claws are entering their fourth season as the NBA D-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics and the first under the new "hybrid" affiliation model. The hybrid model allows for NBA teams to secure control of and cover the expenses related to the basketball operations of an NBA Development League team while partnering with existing local ownership, which maintains responsibility for the team's off-the-court business operations.
"We have been pleased with the quality of players we have seen expressing interest in the tryout," said Boston Celtics Director of Player Personnel Austin Ainge. "Tryouts mark the first step in building the 2012-13 Red Claws roster, and we are excited to get underway with our expanded partnership with the Maine organization this season."
