Hill City Howlers News Release

Wilmington, DE - A scoreless tie was broken up in the bottom of the ninth by the Wilmington Blue Rocks, as they beat the Hillcats 1-0. Orlando Calixte delivered the walk-off knock after fouling off four two-strike pitches and working a full count with the bases loaded and two outs. The 'Cats have now dropped the first three of four games in Wilmington this weekend.

Clearly the pitching dominated in the 1-0 affair.

LHP Dimasther Delgado went six innings for Lynchburg. He gave up just four hits, walked one, and struck out four. He didn't allow two runners to reach base at the same time until he gave up back-to-back singles in the sixth inning with one out. He then stranded those two runners at first and second.

RHP Brooks Pounders tossed seven scoreless for Wilmington, surrendering just three hits, walking one, and striking out seven. He sat down 13 in a row from the final out of the first to the final out of the fifth.

The Hillcats best opportunity to score came in the seventh inning. Nick Ahmed singled to lead off the frame. He advanced to third base on a wild pick-off attempt to first. Dan Brewer then struck out looking. Chris Garcia batted with one out and Ahmed at third base. He flew out to straight away center field. The ball was not all that well-hit, but Ahmed decided to test Brett Eibner's arm. Eibner fired a bullet to the plate hitting the catcher in the chest on the fly, nailing Ahmed by two steps. Eibner had also thrown out Emerson Landoni at third earlier in the night.

The game was not without controversy from the Hillcats standpoint. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, RHP Juan Jamie delivered a 2-2 fast ball around the knees of Calixte. The entire Hillcats defense was motioning towards the dugout and jumping up and down with disbelief when their pitcher didn't get the call. The count went full, and after a couple fouls, Calixte drove in the game-winner from third with a line drive to left field.

Jamie (1-3) suffered the loss giving up just one run in two and two-thirds innings. RHP Robinson Yambati (2-0) took the win after throwing a scoreless top of the ninth. Yambati's first win came Thursday night, when the Blue Rocks walked-off in the bottom of the 10th against the Hillcats.

Lynchburg is now 26-29 in the second half, and 3.5 games behind the Blue Rocks for first place in the Northern Division.

The 'Cats will try to avoid the four-game sweep in Wilmington tomorrow afternoon at 1:35pm. RHP Gus Schlosser (13-5) gets the nod for Lynchburg against RHP Leondy Perez (3-4) for the Blue Rocks.
