Naturals' Rally Falls Short

SPRINGDALE, AR- The Northwest Arkansas Naturals had the tying run on third in the ninth inning, but fell 4-3 to the Midland RockHounds on Thursday night at Arvest Ballpark. The rubber match of the three game series is tomorrow night.

Tyler Ladendorf put the RockHounds in front with a two-run double to make it a 2-0 game. Anthony Aliotti singled home Ladendorf in the top of the fifth inning to push the RockHounds lead to 3-0.

Naturals' starter Mike Montgomery (2-3) went four and a third innings allowing seven hits and three runs. The left-hander walked three and struck out five.

Jeremy Barfield added to the RockHounds lead in the top half of the sixth inning. The right-fielder blasted a solo home run over the left field fence to make it 4-0. The home run was the second of the series and number 11 of the season for Barfield.

Paulo Orlando put the Naturals on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. The center fielder drilled a solo home run to left-field to make it a 4-1 contest. The home run was the fourth of the season for Orlando.

Carlos Hernandez (5-4) went six innings allowing just four hits and one run. The left-hander struck out a season high seven, while issuing just one walk.

The offense for the Naturals rallied again in the bottom of the ninth inning. Nick Van Stratten delivered a two-out RBI single to make it a 4-2 contest. The single was the third hit of the night for Van Stratten. Paulo Orlando followed by reaching on an error that scored Rey Navarro to cut the lead to 4-3. Midland's Jonathan Ortiz avoided further damage by getting Whit Merrifield to line out to left field to end the game. Ortiz worked two innings allowing three hits and two runs to earn his fourteenth save of the season.

The Naturals will wrap-up their three-game series against the Midland RockHounds on Friday night at 7:05 PM. The Naturals will send right-hander JC Sulbaran (0-0, 2.25) against the RockHounds left-hander Fabio Castro (1-3, 4.18). The game can be heard on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
