BATTLE CREEK, MI - The Battle Creek Bombers exploded for eight runs on seven hits in the 7th inning and held on for a 9-5 victory over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in the opener of a three game series at C.O. Brown Stadium.

Through six innings, Rafters starter Ben Heller was cruising. The right-hander had allowed just two hits, but Sikes Orvis led off with a sharp double to right for Battle Creek, and it was off to the races from there. Orvis had another hit in the inning, a two-run single that was eventually the game winner. Colin Willis, who was 3-4 with two RBI on the night, also drove in a run in the decisive frame for the Bombers. Battle Creek also took advantage of three Rafters errors in the inning.

The recently acquired Bryan Stevens picked up his first win of the season, pitching two scoreless innings in relief of Battle Creek starter Caleb Vincent. Tommy Danczyk took the loss, as he could not retire a man and allowed three runs.

The series continues on Wednesday night at C.O. Brown Stadium. Brian Valente will throw the first pitch for Battle Creek at 7:05 E.T.

The Battle Creek Bombers are members of the prestigious Northwoods League that has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other summer collegiate baseball league in North America.
