
Wild Pitch Puts 66ers in Win Column

The Inland Empire 66ers (50-58, 19-19) continued their dominance of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (52-56, 15-23) coming from behind to pick up a 3-1 victory on the road. The 66ers have now notched their 17th win against their I-10 rivals, the most of any team in the California League.
The 66ers offense were not able to score until the 8th inning as they took advantage of a fielding error by Quakes shortstop Charlie Mirabal that allowed 66ers left fielder Ryan Jones to score to knot the game at 1-1. The 66ers took the lead for good on a wild pitch by Quakes reliever Ryan O'Sullivan that allowed 66ers shortstop Jean Almanzar to score from third on a close play to beat the tag by Quakes catcher Jan Vazquez. 66ers catcher Jett Bandy hit a RBI double for the insurance run. Bandy now had 37 RBIs on the year.
66ers starter Andrew Smith pitched a quality start as he went 6 innings, giving up one earned run, striking out four and walking two for the no decision. 66ers reliever Manuel Flores earned the win as he pitched a scoreless 7th inning giving up only one hit. Flores improved to 2-1 on the year. O'Sullivan was charged with the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year. 66ers closer Daniel Tillman pitched a perfect 9th, striking out two to earn his fifth save of the year.
The 66ers will continue their series on the road with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes tomorrow at 7:00 pm.
