66ers Ace Moves to Double-A

July 31, 2012 - California League (CalL) Inland Empire 66ers

San Bernardino, CA - Inland Empire starting pitcher Nick Maronde is on his way to AA-Arkansas after lighting up the California League throughout the season. Joining the 66ers from Low A Cedar Rapids are starter Dan Reynolds and closer Ty Kelley. To make room the Angels have released relief pitcher Kyle Hurst.

Nick Maronde won two California League pitcher of the week awards with the 66ers and was the dominant pitcher in the league when healthy. Maronde went 3-1 with a 1.82 ERA in 10 starts holding opposing hitters to a .187 batting average. After missing slightly over two months on the mound, Maronde returned to the rotation for an amazing month of July. Maronde was 3-0 and allowed just one run in 24 1/3 innings over his four starts in July.

Dan Reynolds is rising fast through the Angles system after spending the last two seasons in the rookie level Pioneer league. Reynolds was 1-3 with a 2.91 ERA over 10 starts in Cedar Rapids. In July Reynolds was 1-0 with a 2.52 ERA over four starts.

Ty Kelley has been the closer for Cedar Rapids since the start of the season. He was 4-1 with 14 saves and a 1.81 ERA over 38 appearances this year. Last year Kelley got a taste of California League action, making nine appearances with the 66ers and holding down a 4.91 ERA.

Kyle Hurst has been released by the Angels. He won a California League pitcher of the week award in 2011 with Inland Empire, and combined with two other pitchers for a no hitter with Cedar Rapids in 2010. In 2012 after rehabbing an injury for much of the first half of the season Hurst had a 6.00 ERA over 10 appearances for the 66ers.

Inland Empire opens a series against the 66ers arch rivals, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes tonight. The team returns home on Friday to host the San Jose Giants. Tickets can be purchased at the 66ers box office and online at www.66ers.com. For more information on the Inland Empire 66ers please contact Sam Farber, Director of Broadcasting, at 909-495-7632.
