Calgary Stampeders News Release

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Calgary Stampeders fans, the equivalent of 131,500 pounds of food was collected on Saturday as part of the team's Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive to benefit the Calgary Food Bank.

The total establishes a new record in the 10-year history of the Purolator Tackle Hunger program and marks the second straight year Stampeders supporters have broken the previous mark. To celebrate its 10th season, Purolator has set a goal to deliver the equivalent of one million pounds of food in 2012. The result from Saturday's food drive will go a long way in helping the Purolator Tackle Hunger program reach the historic milestone.

"Our fans have set the bar very high when it comes to their generosity to this worthy cause and yet they continue to top themselves," said Stampeders president/COO Lyle Bauer. "This is a remarkable accomplishment and we thank everyone who made donations. A job well done by all!"

"The Purolator Tackle Hunger game was a perfect example of dedication and passion that Stampeders fans bring to feeding those who are hungry in our community," said Julie Brewster, development coordinator of the Calgary Food Bank. "The enthusiasm of Stampeders fans for the Purolator Tackle Hunger game captures the caring and compassion that Calgarians have for each other."

Stampeders players and personnel will be visiting the Food Bank in the near future to help sort all the food that was collected as part of this year's program.

The Calgary Food Bank distributes emergency food to more than 12,000 people every month in addition to sharing food with 100 local agencies.

As Canada's leading integrated freight and parcel solutions provider with national resources of more than 12,000 teammates, more than 3,000 courier vehicles and the ability to reach almost every destination point in Canada, Purolator is committed to helping alleviate hunger in the communities where it operates. As part of this commitment, Purolator works closely with its teammates, customers and food banks across Canada to collect donations and help raise awareness about theissue of hunger. Since its inception in 2003, Purolator Tackle Hunger has now helped deliver the equivalent of five million pounds of food to food banks across Canada.
