Six-Run Seventh Carries Rome to Sixth Straight Win

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 9-8 tonight in game two of their three game series at State Mutual Stadium in front of 3,715 fans. Tonight's win marks Rome's sixth straight victory. The Braves had to come from behind to notch the win.

The Sand Gnats jumped on Rome early as they scored four runs in the first inning off of Rome starter Greg Ross. Dustin Lawley doubled home Gilbert Gomez while Gregory Pron, Cole Frenzel, and Albert Cordero all had RBI singles. Rome made it a 4-1 game in the fourth on a Kyle Kubitza RBI triple. The Braves added two more runs in the fifth thanks to a two run single by William Beckwith to make it a one run game. The Sand Gnats jumped on Rome reliever Ronan Pacheco in the sixth with three runs making it a 7-3 game. Camden Maron and Dustin Lawley each had RBI hits and Gregory Pron added a sacrifice fly.

The Braves went to work in the bottom of the seventh and scored six huge runs. Ross Heffley got the scoring parade started with a two RBI double. Beckwith added another double to score two more runs tying the game at 7-7. With the bases full and one out, Will Skinner hit an infield ground ball to third basemen Dustin Lawley allowing Beckwith to score the go ahead run from third. Lawley tried to turn a double play getting a force out at second but Yucarybert De La Cruz's throw to first was a wild one and allowed another run to cross the plate giving Rome a 9-7 lead. Cole Frenzel led off the ninth inning for Savannah with his second home run of the year closing Rome's lead to one run. David Peterson then came into the game to shut down the Savannah offensive and earn his fifth save and give Rome the victory. Ronan Pacheco (3-0) was the winner and Chasen Bradford (2-4) gets tagged with the loss. William Beckwith now has 17 RBI in his last six games for the Braves.
