Houston Dynamo FC News Release
The Houston Dynamo continued their July surge with their fourth consecutive win, a 2-0 road triumph over Toronto FC on Saturday to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games. Calen Carr gave Houston a 1-0 lead moments before halftime and Brian Ching scored late to give the Dynamo a convincing road win. The Dynamo have outscored their opponents 11-1 during the four-game winning streak.
Goalkeeper Tally Hall extended his career-high with his ninth shutout of the season. Hall is tied for the league lead in shutouts with Jimmy Nielsen of Sporting Kansas City. Hall and the Dynamo have recorded five shutouts in their last six games and have not allowed a goal in the run of play since June 30. It has been six and a half games - 584 minutes - since Keon Daniel of Philadelphia scored against the Dynamo, the last goal conceded in the run of play.
Hall is now two shutouts from tying Pat Onstad's single-season club record of 11 clean sheets, set in 2007. Hall has 12 regular season games remaining to attempt to set a new mark.
The Dynamo are now one win shy of matching their franchise record of five consecutive wins, accomplished twice, in 2009 and 2007. The club is four games shy of equaling their longest unbeaten run, an 11-game streak without a loss set in 2009.
Carr, named MLS Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Tuesday, delivered Houston a 1-0 lead in the final play before halftime. Brad Davis served in a corner kick and Bobby Boswell flicked the delivery from the corner of the six-yard box on the near post toward the opposite edge of the box. Carr was alone and met the flick with a downward header into the net for an opening goal.
It was Carr's third goal of the year, matching a career high set with Chicago in 2007 and 2010.
Ching started for the first time since June 23 and bagged his fourth goal of the season in the 86th minute. Boniek began the sequence with a nifty touch around Toronto defender Jeremy Hall before finding a streaking Davis with a pass at the corner of the box. Davis delivered a first-touch cross to Ching, who charged into the box before finishing with his left-foot for the clinching goal.
It was Ching's 81st career regular season goal to move alone into 12th place on the MLS all-time scoring chart. Ching is one goal shy of tying Raul Diaz Arce for 11th on the league's all-time scoring list.
Davis recorded two assists for his second consecutive two-assist game and his fourth straight game with an assist. The all-star midfielder has recorded six assists in his last four games and now has ten assists on the season. Davis is now tied for the league lead in assists with Dwayne De Rosario of D.C. United.
It is the fourth consecutive season and fifth in his last seven that Davis has recorded ten or more assists.
It was also Davis' 200th start with the Dynamo in all competitions. Davis is the franchise leader in starts, games, minutes and assists. It was also his 90th career regular season assist to move within one assist of Cobi Jones for seventh on the MLS all-time chart.
It was defender Corey Ashe's 150th MLS regular season game. Ashe is second on the Dynamo franchise list for regular season games played.
It was defender Bobby Boswell's 170th Dynamo game in all competitions. He is now tied with Pat Onstad for fifth on the franchise list.
I was defender Andre Hainault's 96th MLS regular season game for the Dynamo. He is now tied with Eddie Robinson for tenth on the franchise list.
It was forward Macoumba Kandji's 75th career regular season game.
The Dynamo are now 5-1 in day games this season. Houston has one more day game this season, at Philadelphia on Sept. 23.
The Dynamo (10-5-7; 37 points) move to within a point of New York, the Eastern Conference leader. The Dynamo face New York in consecutive games, beginning Aug. 3 in Houston, with the season's final meeting coming a week later, on Aug. 10 in New York.
